Meet Yvette Brown, trauma therapist for midlife women
The parts of you that learned to survive are not your enemy. They can be met with the same mercy Christ shows the weary.
Marriage and Family Therapist Trainee at Attune Center for Healing, a program of Northern California Family Counseling and Wellness Center in Redding. Supervised by Christina Whitney, LMFT #111050.
Who I work with
I work with women carrying unprocessed trauma, C-PTSD, grief, and the after effects of narcissistic or controlling relationships. Many are also living with chronic illness, caring for adult children or aging parents, or navigating a complicated blended family.
A lot of the women I see put marriage, family, and responsibility first, and they do it out of love. Over time, that can mean their own needs go unmet. Even if you look capable and strong from the outside, you may be worn out from being the reliable one.
If you have spent years holding everyone else together while your own story stays unfinished, you are not asking for too much by wanting a place to set it down.
How I work
Therapy with me is paced and collaborative. We work with the parts of you that learned to survive, what your body still holds, and family patterns that asked you to grow up too soon. You will never be pushed to share more than you are ready to share.
-
Parts work
I am Internal Family Systems-informed. We get to know the parts of you that over-function, freeze, or keep the peace, and meet them with curiosity instead of criticism. We also look at the beliefs underneath that keep old patterns in place.
-
Brainspotting
A body-based way of processing what words alone do not reach, such as a startle response to a certain tone of voice.
-
Talk therapy
Ordinary conversation keeps the story honest, so you are not talking yourself out of what actually happened.
My story and training
I came to this work through my own journey, including caregiving, chronic illness, and years of trauma-informed peer support. Those experiences shape how I hold the room, with care and without hurry.
I am pursuing my Master’s in Counseling Psychology through Simpson University. I am a Marriage and Family Therapist Trainee, which means I work under the clinical supervision of Christina Whitney, LMFT #111050, at Attune Center for Healing, a program of Northern California Family Counseling and Wellness Center.
You can also see my Psychology Today profile for more about my background.
Faith in the room
I am a Christian, and I respect traditional family values as a resource, not a problem. If faith is part of how you make sense of your life, it is welcome here. It will not be used to rush forgiveness or skip the work. Instead, it can be a source of strength if you want it to be.
If that is not how you name your life, you are welcome here too. Faith is never required.
My four-part journal series on Internal Family Systems from a Christian point of view starts here, if you want to see how I think about it.
What to expect at your first session
We begin by talking about where you are, at a pace that feels manageable:
- Your history, as much or as little as you want to share
- What you are facing right now
- What you are hoping will change
Nothing has to be rushed, and you can tell me to slow down at any point. Before you decide, a free 15-minute consult lets you ask questions and get a feel for how I work.
