Christian Counseling for Women in Redding

You want a therapist who understands trauma and also understands why your faith matters to you. You shouldn’t have to choose between the two.

I am a Christian therapist trainee in Redding. I work with women in their 30s and 40s who are carrying trauma, burnout, or the hurt from controlling relationships. Your faith is welcome in the room, at whatever level feels right to you.

Does this sound familiar?

  • You have prayed about it for years, and you still feel stuck.
  • You were told to just forgive, but the hurt didn’t go away.
  • You serve at church, at home, and at work, and you are running on empty.
  • You worry a regular therapist might dismiss your faith or treat it like a problem.
  • You worry a church counselor might tell you to pray more and try harder.
  • Someone used scripture or church to control you, and now faith feels complicated.

If some of this is you, you are not a weak Christian. Struggling is not a sign of failure. It is a sign you have been carrying a lot.

Faith and good therapy can work together

I believe God made us whole and good. Trauma doesn’t erase that. It covers it up. My job is to help you clear away what is covering it, gently and at your pace.

I am trained in trauma therapy, not just pastoral care. That means we can work with the way trauma lives in your body and memory, not only in your thoughts. Faith can sit right alongside that work. It never replaces it.

You were never meant to carry it alone.

You choose how much faith is in the room

A lot

We can pray, talk about scripture, and explore where God is in your story.

A little

Faith comes up when it comes up. You lead, and I follow.

None at all

We leave it out completely. You will still be treated with full respect.

You can change your mind at any time. I will never push faith on you, and I will never use it to rush you.

What I won’t do

  • I won’t tell you to forgive before you are ready. Forgiveness can’t be forced, and rushing it often deepens the wound.
  • I won’t tell you your pain means you aren’t trusting God enough.
  • I won’t take sides on church debates or tell you which church is right.
  • I won’t use scripture to shame you, silence you, or keep you in a harmful situation.

When church has been part of the hurt

Some women come to me after faith was used against them. Maybe a spouse, parent, or leader used the Bible to control them. Maybe they were told to submit and stay quiet in a relationship that wasn’t safe.

That kind of hurt is real, and it can make faith feel confusing or painful. You don’t have to sort it all out before you start. We can go slowly, and you get to decide what your faith looks like on the other side. If this is part of your story, you may also want to read about therapy after controlling and narcissistic relationships.

How I work

Internal Family Systems, often called IFS, is a way of working with the different parts of ourselves. Most of us have a part that pushes hard, a part that feels guilty, and a part that just wants to hide. In IFS, we get to know these parts with kindness instead of criticism. Many Christians find this fits well with their faith. It helps them treat themselves with the same grace they offer others. I wrote a blog series about this, starting with You were not created broken.

Brainspotting is a gentle, body-based approach. It helps your brain process hard memories without needing to find the perfect words.

I also help with trauma, burnout, and the load many midlife women carry.

Questions people ask

Is this the same as biblical counseling?

No. Biblical counseling is usually done by a pastor or church-trained counselor. I am a therapist in training, working under a licensed supervisor. I use trauma therapy methods backed by research, and I welcome your faith as part of that work.

Will you pray with me?

Yes, if you want to. You can ask at any time. I will never start prayer without asking you first.

Do I have to be a Christian to work with you?

No. People of any faith, or no faith, are welcome here. If faith isn’t part of how you see your life, we leave it out.

What denomination are you?

I am a Christian, and I work with women from many church backgrounds. I won’t try to change your beliefs or steer you toward my church. Your faith is yours.

I’m not sure what I believe anymore. Can I still come?

Yes. Doubt and questions are welcome here. You don’t need to have it figured out to start therapy.

A place to set it down

A free 15-minute consult is the next step. Tell me a little about what you are carrying, and I will tell you how I work and whether I have room. There is no pressure to book.

This is education, not therapy. It’s not medical advice and doesn’t create a therapist-client relationship.
