Insurance and Cost for Therapy in Redding
Figuring out what therapy will actually cost you can feel like its own project, on top of everything that brought you here in the first place. Here’s a plain, upfront answer.
I work with women in their 30s and 40s on trauma, burnout, and midlife through Attune Center for Healing, in person in Redding or by secure video anywhere in California.

Insurance plans accepted
Through Attune Center for Healing, these plans are currently accepted:
- Aetna
- Health Net
- L.A. Care
- Magellan
- UnitedHealthcare
- Partnership
- Medi-Cal
Coverage details can still vary within the same insurance company depending on your specific plan, so the free consult call is a good time to ask about yours directly.
Self-pay and superbills
Self-pay rate
$100 per session, for anyone who is private pay or whose plan isn’t listed above.
Superbills
Available on request. A superbill is simply an itemized receipt you submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement.
HSA and FSA
Therapy is generally an eligible expense. Check with your plan administrator to confirm, and ask for a receipt that includes what they require.
In-network vs. out-of-network, in plain terms
“In-network” means an insurance company has a contract with a provider, so you typically pay only a copay. “Out-of-network” means you pay the full session fee yourself, but many plans will reimburse part of it once you submit a superbill.
It’s worth calling the number on the back of your insurance card and asking directly: “Do you offer out-of-network reimbursement for outpatient mental health, and what percentage?” Write down who you spoke with and when, in case you need to reference the call later.
Cost is a real constraint, not a character issue. It’s worth being direct about it on the first call.
If cost is still a barrier
If private therapy isn’t realistic right now, you still have options. Shasta County has community mental health resources, sliding-scale clinics, and crisis lines that cost nothing to call. I’ve put together a fuller list on Mental Health Resources in Shasta County, worth bookmarking even if you end up working with someone privately later.
A good therapist would rather help you find the right fit, even if that fit isn’t them, than have you go without support entirely. You’re welcome to be direct about budget on your free consult call.
Questions people ask
Do you accept my specific insurance plan?
The plans accepted through Attune Center for Healing are listed above, but coverage can vary by the specific plan within a company. Ask on your free consult call and I’ll help you figure out your options.
What’s a superbill, and how do I use one?
A superbill is an itemized receipt showing the service provided, the date, and the cost, which you submit yourself to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement. I provide these on request.
Why don’t more therapists take insurance?
Insurance reimbursement rates and paperwork requirements lead many therapists, especially smaller practices, to work private pay or out-of-network. It isn’t a reflection of your coverage being unwanted, it’s a practical reality of how mental health billing works industry-wide.
What if I have no insurance and can’t afford $100 a session?
Say so on the free consult call. I’d rather help you find a workable option, including community and sliding-scale resources in Shasta County, than have cost be the reason you go without support.
Can I use my HSA or FSA card to pay?
Therapy is generally an eligible expense under most HSA and FSA plans. Confirm with your plan administrator, and I can provide a receipt with the details they typically require.
Ask about your specific plan
A free 15-minute consult is the easiest way to get a straight answer about what this would actually cost you. There’s no pressure to book afterward.
This is education, not therapy. It’s not medical advice and doesn’t create a therapist-client relationship.
