Therapy for midlife women in Redding and across California

A lot of the people I see are midlife women who still look like they have it handled. They keep the household, the aging parent, the job, and the blended family calendar. Inside, the nervous system is tired.

Therapy here is not a pep talk about balance. It is a place where the one who held everyone else gets to set it down.

What midlife brings into the room

  • Caregiving for parents, partners, adult children, or all three
  • Chronic illness, autoimmune load, or a body that changed the rules
  • Divorce, remarriage, and complex blended households
  • The delayed cost of being the parentified oldest daughter
  • Faith, doubt, and the wish for a spiritual frame that is not used as pressure
  • Intimacy that got crowded out by logistics and resentment

If the oldest-daughter line hit home, you may want to read When being needed stops being safety, a journal post about how usefulness can start as shelter and end up as a weight.

How we work with this

We treat the over-functioning as a part that learned to keep the family alive, not as a personality flaw. Internal Family Systems helps that part stand down a few inches. Brainspotting helps the body release what competence has been covering.

We talk about limits in language that does not require you to justify your existence. Sessions are paced and collaborative, and you are never pushed to share more than you are ready to share.

When your body is part of the story

If you live with a medical condition, we do not pretend the body is only a metaphor. We pace around flares, appointments, and energy.

Therapy should not become one more performance.

In Redding and across California

You can sit in the Bechelli Lane office in Redding, or meet by secure video from anywhere in California. Video removes the drive, which matters when your calendar is already full.

Weekend intensives are available when scheduled in advance, for the times when a longer block is more honest than another 50 minutes squeezed between obligations.

Questions people ask

Do you only see women?

I specialize in women’s issues and midlife load. I also see other midlife adults carrying similar roles. We can sort out fit on the consult.

Do I have to leave my marriage or change my family to come?

No. We work with what is true now, including staying, leaving, or not knowing yet.

Is faith part of the work?

Only if you want it. Faith is welcome. It is not required.

I barely have time for myself. How would therapy fit?

Meeting by video removes the drive, and weekend intensives are available when scheduled in advance. We can talk through scheduling on the free consult.

Can we meet by video from anywhere in California?

Yes, as long as you are physically in California at the time of your session. I also see people in person at Attune Center for Healing in Redding.
